Another mega wind farm planned for WA
Another wind farm is being proposed in WA, this time at a scale that will leave your head spinning.
A Spanish corporation is proposing a 3 gigawatt wind farm, building 400 turbines, each over 200 meters tall, on farmland in the great southern region on productive farmland. Just to get an idea of what 220 meters looks like, that is the height of the central park skyscraper in Perth.
The project would be one of the largest onshore wind farms in the world, and produce three times as much electricity as the current Muja coal fired power station. Costs have not been revealed, however significant transmission lines would also need to be built throughout the area.
This is another sign of the wind industry getting out of control, many people thought the offshore wind farm in Geographe Bay was insane, however this new proposal is taking things to the next level of ridiculousness.
The fact remains that wind power is not suitable to power a modern industrial society, due to its intermittent nature. The intermittent renewables industry used to refer to Germany as the example we should follow, however they not longer mention it as Germany is rapidly de-industrialising and has the highest energy prices in Germany, leading to mass job losses and a significant drop in their standard of living.
Here in Western Australia we are told that intermittent renewables are the only option for our energy future, however this is clearly not true. There are other options, and in WA's case, we can just keep using coal and it will have no real impact on global emissions. The cost of the intermittent renewables is not known, and there are many un-answered questions with regards to storage requirements and grid re-design.
One Nation WA is opposed to the mad scramble to build as much intermittent renewable generation as possible, and sees that this is about an industry trying to take as much money as possible from taxpayers, and nothing else. We are opposed to investing in a technology that is not fit-for-purpose, just because salespeople are pressuring us into it.
There are many problems with large scale wind and solar projects, they are an eyesore, they impact negatively on their immediate environment and provide intermittent power because the wind does not always blow and the sun does not shine at night, thus also requiring a huge investment in backup generation capacity or storage. Solar panels and wind turbines need to be replaced after a period of time and the components are not easy to recycle. They require a re-design and re-build of the grid, which was built for centralised large scale generation.
Cynical people will also question why the woke left intermittent renewable evangelists are suddenly displaying a curious lack of interest in the cultural heritage and environmental implications of placing 200m tall rotors in the countryside with a network of transmission lines connecting them all.
The fact is we are being sold a dud, and our woke Government is pushing these projects through without considering long term implications. The costs are unknown and likely astronomical, the technology is not fit for purpose and there it is no need to do it when we have other options.
