One Nation WA will Stomp on Stamp Duty
Pauline Hanson’s One Nation WA State Leader Rod Caddies has promised to abolish stamp duty for home sales by Western Australians if elected at the 2025 state election.
“Stamp duty is a major barrier to people being able to afford housing, and during this housing crisis we need to look at making it easier for people to have a place to live” said Mr Caddies.
“By abolishing stamp duty for home sales between Western Australians, more people will be willing to downsize, freeing up housing stock, and more young people will be able to afford a place to live.”
Stamp duty revenue in WA has risen dramatically due to it being linked directly to surging home prices, so as house prices rise, so does the amount of stamp duty that citizens are forced to pay.
When asked how the promise could be funded, Mr Caddies noted that One Nation WA had a clear plan to abandon pointless emissions targets and save tens of billions of dollars by continuing to use coal in WA instead of embarking on the uncertain and costly energy transition, estimated to cost as much as $52 billion.
“We can easily fund this promise, and all of our other promises, because One Nation will build a modern efficient coal plant in Collie, instead of spending many tens of billions redesigning the entire grid to accommodate intermittent renewable energy sources”.
Mr Caddies noted the US had recently abandoned emissions targets following the election of President Trump, and that India and China were still using huge amounts of coal.
“WA emissions account for such a tiny portion of global emissions, anything we do is completely irrelevant, and only causes us economic harm” said Mr Caddies.
Mr Caddies said that his party would also be able to make significant inroads into fixing the health, education and police resourcing problems the state is facing by just continuing to use coal fired electricity and by removing spending on emissions reduction targets.
“One Nation WA is a genuine alternative to the major parties, and we are serious about restoring our standard of living in WA” said Mr Caddies.
“We are the only party that is prepared to pull the major levers of power to ensure the prosperity and security of Western Australians always comes first.”
