Energy

In brief:

·        Keep coal for reliable, affordable baseload power

·        Open to nuclear power in the future

·        Oppose costly wind farms (Scott River, Geographe Bay)

·        Expose the true cost of the renewables “transition”

We believe access to affordable and reliable energy is the key to our way of life. We believe in a diverse energy mix, which may include nuclear power in the future. We believe we need to keep coal fired power stations running on local coal until we find an alternative baseload energy source.

Ultimately WA coal fired power makes no meaningful contribution to global emissions and has provided the people of this state with safe, reliable and affordable energy for generations. At One Nation WA we would not be afraid to continue to rely on coal fired baseload power for many years into the future.

It is estimated that the "energy transition" in WA will cost more than $50bn, although it will likely be significantly more than that. Building a new coal fired electricity plant in Collie will cost a fraction of this.

One Nation WA has also exposed the fact that Synergy is running our state-owned coal power plants into the ground by turning them off and then on again to accommodate intermittent renewables. This reduces the lifespan of these taxpayer-owned assets, and the additional costs are not attributed to intermittent renewables, allowing the renewables lobby to claim that coal is not the cheapest source of power.

We also oppose the Scott River and Geographe Bay wind farms.

One Nation WA is the only party with a viable long term energy policy that will ensure affordable, reliable and safe electricity for WA households and industry. We will make sure that coal remains part of our energy mix in WA, so it can provide stable and reliable baseload energy.
